Welcome to March.

Winter’s almost over and spring is almost here (the first day of spring is Tuesday, March 20th, by the way).

For many homeowners in Kitchener, Oakville, and Toronto, now’s the time to undertake a home renovation project – such as bath remodeling.

Now, on one hand:

  • You might think your bathroom is okay; at least in decent enough shape to last one more year.

On the other hand:

  • You’re beginning to wonder if it’s time to transform your bathroom.

With that in mind, here are 7 telltale signs you can’t ignore that you’re due (maybe even overdue) for a bathroom transformation project.

Sign 1: Small imperfections are becoming big problems

There are 4 minor bathroom issues many people come to Bath Planet of Toronto unhappy with:

  • Impossible to remove stains
  • Growing cracks in the tiles
  • Peeling paint
  • Missing or peeling grout

If those little flaws are getting bigger and bigger, they are either symptoms of – or could lead to – a larger (and possibly expensive) concern:

  • Mold and mildew growth
  • Corroding or rusting beneath your bath wall or shower wall
  • Structural damages

If a small blemish is now a big eyesore, that’s a warning sign your bathroom needs to be updated.

Sign 2: You think it’s ugly

Is your bathroom décor the same as when you first moved into your current home?

While some bathrooms age beautifully, many do not; especially the large, fixed areas like the bathtub, shower doors, or sink/vanity area.

Now, the bathroom is supposed to be a place of tranquil relaxation, and calming peace.

But if your blood boils each time you enter because you hate the colour of the shower wall or don’t like where the towel rack is located, it’s time for a change.

Here’s one more thing to consider:

  • If you’re planning to sell your home this year, and you think the bathroom is ugly; prospective home buyers will come to the same conclusion.

Bottom line? If your bathroom is ugly, it’s time to change it.

Sign 3: It isn’t accessible

For seniors with mobility issues, the bathroom can be quite a treacherous place with things like:

  • Slips and falls due to water
  • Injuries stepping over, and into, a high-walled bathtub
  • Lack of stable, secure grab bars

If you’re getting older, but want to stay in your current house, installing bathroom accessibility products ensures you’re safe and maintain bathing independence.

For example:

Have you (or your spouse) had a “close call” in the bathroom?

Yes? Then perhaps now’s the time to make it safer.

Sign 4: It’s tax time

What do taxes have to do with a bathroom renovation?

As mentioned in sign 3 of this blog, you may want to transform your bathroom due to accessibility and mobility issues.

Should you do, you may be eligible for the Home Accessibility Tax Credit.

Here’s a quick rundown of how it works:

  • Renovations that make homes safer for seniors (65 years or older) and the disabled (those with a valid disability tax certificate) may quality for the credit
  • Up to $10,000 in renovation expenses may be claimed
  • Allowable expenses include grab bars, walk-in tubs, and wheelchair accessibility

In rare instances, you might be able to claim the Home Accessibility Tax Credit twice if the renovations also quality as medical expenses.

Sign 5: You hate cleaning it

Okay; most people hate cleaning the bathroom.

But if you really really hate it, then it’s time for an upgrade.

The biggest problem with cleaning the bathroom is getting dirt, grime, and gunk off challenging surfaces such as:

  • Marble
  • Ceramic
  • Porcelain
  • Wood

However, changing the main material in your bathroom to something more hygienic (like acrylic) can drastically reduce the amount of time and effort you spend cleaning it.

Sign 6: The toilet just doesn’t cut it anymore

As tough as your toilet is, here’s when you know it’s time to replace it:

  • It’s always clogging up (yuck)
  • It has a giant crack in it
  • There are scratches and chips everywhere
  • It’s wobbly when you sit on it
  • It doesn’t fit with your new bathroom design ideas

Sign 7: Higher water bills

If your bathroom is old – and you’ve noticed your monthly water bills going higher and higher – the two may be connected.

For example:

  • A high-flow toilet which uses 6 litres per flush (low-flow toilets use 4.8 litres)
  • Leaky faucets which, no matter how hard you try, you just can’t fix
  • An old shower head that doesn’t have variable water settings

According to a study by Global News, 65% of daily water usage occurs in the bathroom (30% for the toilet, 35% for bathing and showering).

In other words, the bathroom is your single biggest source for water consumption.

And if it’s not efficient or eco-friendly, it’s going to cost you more money in the long run.

The first day of spring is fast approaching (Tuesday, March 20), which means:

  • Warmer temperatures
  • Longer days
  • Blooming flowers
  • More sunshine

It also means that many people in Kitchener, Oakville, and Toronto will be putting their homes up for sale.

Now, updating the kitchen is a sure-fire way to boost the price of your home and attract more serious buyers as well.

After that, follow these bath remodeling or shower remodeling tips to make your bathroom a desirable feature which home buyers are looking for.

Replace what’s broken and/or damaged

You might be used to that cracked toilet, stained shower wall surround, or leaky faucet.

But anyone interested in buying your home isn’t; and it’ll be an immediate turn-off for them.

Make certain you update anything – no matter how small – that doesn’t look or work as it should:

  • Light switch covers
  • Faucets
  • Old vanity lights
  • Loose cabinet doors
  • Cracked mirrors
  • Dirty bath liners
  • Missing bath caulking

As you’re updating your bathroom, think about its function and efficiency – as well as its overall appearance.

For example:

If the answers to the above questions are “no”, you may want to contact us at Bath Planet of Toronto for a FREE in-home design consultation.

Think timeless

Those old, antiquated fixtures which came with your bathroom when you first bought your house may be charming, but they won’t help maximize value.

Instead, you’ll want to update your bathroom so that when prospective home buyers see it, they’ll think “the bathroom’s perfect; nothing to do here.”

That means:

  • Bringing in modern design trends to your washroom
  • Painting the walls with a fresh, vibrant colour
  • Replacing those old vinyl floor tiles with a more modern option
  • Changing the vanity/sink to something a bit more contemporary

Remember, people don’t want to think the bathroom will immediately look out-of-date the moment they buy the house.

Unless you’re selling a fixer-upper (and advertising your home as such), most house hunters want to do as little work as possible in terms of updating, redesigning, redecorating, etc.

Clean like you’ve never cleaned before

When was the last time you rolled up your sleeves, got down on your hands and knees, and really scrubbed your bathroom clean, top-to-bottom?

Well, if you’re selling your home, that’s what you’ll have to do.

Every inch of every corner of your house is going to be inspected, scrutinized, glossed over, and picked apart.

The last thing you want is for dust bunnies or stains to leave a bad impression.

With that in mind, here are some helpful bathroom cleaning tips:

Bathtub and shower

  • Spray the bathtub or shower liner with bathroom cleaner and let it sit
  • Scrub away bathtub rings, dirt deposits, and buildup away from the faucets
  • Rinse off the tub or shower using the showerhead or a bucket filled with water

Shower doors

  • Gently use non-abrasive cleaners and soft sponges on your shower doors

Toilet

  • Apply toilet cleanser inside the bowl and let it do its thing
  • Clean underneath the toilet rim using a toilet brush (a generic brush won’t cut it)
  • Disinfect the rim, seat, handle, lid, and the outer tank and bowl areas
  • Wipe the toilet dry with fresh cloths

Sink

  • Fill the sink with warm water and baking soda and let set
  • Empty the sink and remove leftover baking soda with water and a dry, clean cloth
  • Spray the countertop (or a fresh cloths) with a water/vinegar mixture
  • Wipe away the countertop with a soft cloth
  • Remove the vinegar smell with a fabric softener sheet
  • Dry the sink thoroughly

Remove clutter

Just like your kitchen, living room, or dining room, your bathroom (and your shower and/or bathtub) is full of everyday clutter such as:

  • Toiletries
  • Cleaning products
  • Soaps (and soap dispensers)
  • Toothbrushes
  • Hair brushes
  • Cleaning products (like disinfecting wipes)

Putting these items out-of-sight will make your bathroom appear bigger than it is.

Additionally, as home buyers are touring your home, they have no interest whatsoever in seeing your personal hygiene products lying around.

Putting your home on the market this spring?

Happy New Year from everyone here at Bath Planet Toronto; we certainly wish that 2018 is off to a great start for you.

If you hop in the time machine and look back to 2017’s hot bathroom décor trends, here’s what was popular:

  • Mediterranean design
  • Multimedia access
  • Extra heat
  • Luxury lighting

Did any of these trends make their way into 2018? Or have they all been replaced with something that’s brand new, unexpected, and exciting?

Read on to find out.

Size trend: Small is big

If money were no object, it’d be great to have a giant, expansive bathroom which has more than enough room for things like:

  • Full-size, his-and-hers bathtubs
  • Dual, private sinks for each member of the family
  • Wall-length, floor-to-ceiling storage cabinets
  • Endless marble flooring
  • Drying stations for you and your towels
  • Personal toilets

Since we all have to be mindful of bath remodeling costs, making the most of the size you do have available (even if it’s small) will be this year’s big (pun intended) size trend.

It’s about making a tiny bathroom comfortable, as opposed to cramped.

That means smartly maximizing every available square inch with things like:

Quick tip: Installing unique floor patterns and/or brightly coloured wall graphics can make a small bathroom feel quite large.

Color trend: The brass and gold comeback

Think back to visiting your grandparents’ house, using the washroom, and seeing gaudy, yellow-ish fixtures like:

Since then, you’ve grown up; and so has fixture décor with colours and materials such as:

  • Silver
  • Metal
  • Pewter

In 2018, what’s old is new again. Brass and gold hardware items are making a comeback.

The difference being, they’ll be warm, inviting and comfortable (instead of bright and garish).

In 2018, brass and gold hardware is making a comeback. But instead of bring bright, they’ll have a warm, comfortable look to them.

When done right, today’s modern brass fixtures will look traditional and never really go out of style.

In addition to handles and faucets, other items brass/gold items in 2018 include:

  • Mirrors
  • Light fixtures
  • Light switch plate covers

Light trend: Unique vanity lights

When thinking about vanity lighting, most people opt to go for a simple bar light.

In 2018, that’s going to change.

Old-fashioned rectangular-shaped lights are going to be replaced by more creative options, such as:

  • Wall sconces
  • Narrow (vs. thick) light bars
  • Pendant lights
  • Chandeliers

Wait – chandeliers?

That’s right. If your bathroom is large enough – and the ceilings are high enough – hanging a chandelier is a popular design trend you can take advantage of this year.

Wall trends: Bold colours

Usually, the default, go-to, can’t make a decision colour for bath wall surrounds or shower wall surrounds is white or beige.

That kind of makes sense. The bathroom is a place for relaxation and peace. Neutral colour options are quite logical.

However, in 2018, bold and brightly coloured walls will be the bathroom décor style of choice.

That means doing unique – even outlandish – things such as:

  • Painting the walls gold (there’s that colour mentioned earlier in this blog)
  • Installing red floor tiles
  • Putting in dark (or even wood-like) tones inside the shower wall

In short, it’s about bringing the full spectrum of the rainbow inside your bathroom.

Organization trend: Smart storage

Take a moment and think about everything you need to store – and access – inside your bathroom:

  • Toilet paper
  • Towels
  • Soap
  • Toiletries
  • Small appliances (hair dryer, curling iron)
  • Clothes hamper

The bathroom is where they belong; even if you’re a bit short of space in there.

Therefore, in 2018, efficient organizations and storage solutions will make their way into the bathroom.

You can go simple, like:

  • Wall-hanging shelves on an open part of the wall

You can go extensive, like:

  • Redesigning your under-the-counter shelving system

You can do practical, like:

  • Building a shelf directly into the shower liner to keep things like shampoo and soap readily accessible (but not in the way)

High-tech trends: Digital shower temperature control

Remember, last year was all about the “multimedia bathroom”.

With that in mind, this year’s hot (or cool, depending on how you like it) trend is digitally controlled showers.

Turning up on the tap, running the water, and waiting for it to reach the desired temperature will be replaced with built-in thermostat controls.

That way, each time you shower, the water will instantly be at the perfect temperature for you.

One more thing: Water that’s running at the same time in other areas of the house (like the dishwasher) won’t interfere with the shower temperature.

Bathroom tips for the holidays

If you’ll be doing any holiday hosting this year, here are some easy-to-follow tips to keep your bathroom in tip-top condition:

  • Expect unexpected guests: You never know who’ll show up and when. Make sure your bathroom is cleaned regularly.
  • Install softer light bulbs: Bright lights are everywhere during the holidays. Softer bulbs will create a calm, soothing and relaxing environment.
  • Use holiday bathmats: They’re colourful, fun and ensure the Christmas spirit makes it to just about every room in your house.
  • Stock up: This accomplishes two things. Firstly, you won’t have to worry about running out of anything. Secondly, you won’t have to fight the holiday crowds to pick anything up.

Thanks for a great 2017. See you in 2018.

However and wherever you plan on celebrating the Holidays, we hope it’s full of good times and good people.

And have a safe and memorable New Year’s celebration too.

Finally, if you think 2018 is your year to update your bathroom, we want to help.

Don’t look now, but the Christmas holidays are just around the corner.

This year, you (and your house) are doing the hosting.

Your bathroom will be among the busiest rooms in your home; doubly so if you have guests staying with you who’ll be using your bathtub or shower.

That means you’ll want your bathroom to look its spiffiest.

And it will be, when you follow these easy cleaning tips courtesy of Bath Planet of Toronto.

The shower and bathtub

Over time, your bath liner or shower wall surrounds are covered in grimy things like:

  • Soap scum
  • Bathing oils
  • Stray hairs
  • Dirt

Most of which you can’t really see. But they’re there, making your bathtub or shower look dull and old.

And areas such as underneath the faucets and fixtures are perfect hiding spots for mold and mildew to form and spread.

Here’s how to bring the shine back to your acrylic bathtub and shower.

Spray

  • Spray the tub with plenty of natural all-purpose bathroom cleaner
  • Let the cleaner stand for a bit so it can attack and remove tough oils and stubborn soap scum

Scrub

  • Remove bathtub rings and other dirt deposits from the bathtub or shower floor
  • Scrub grime off tile grout and away from tough corners or cracks
  • Use a fine toothbrush to clean buildup away from the fixtures and faucet

Rinse

  • If you have a detachable showerhead, use that to rinse out the tub or shower
  • If you don’t, fill a bucket with water and dump into the tub/shower as needed

Shower doors

Custom shower doors need a bit of extra care when cleaning them.

If possible, you should use non-abrasive cleaners such as:

  • Environmentally-friendly all-purpose cleaner
  • Pine oil
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar

Make certain to also use soft sponges or cloths and not harsh cleaning pads or scrubbers.

The toilet

It’s not fun.

It has to be done, though.

And cleaning the toilet is necessary when you’ll be entertaining numerous guests over the holidays.

So here’s how to get through it quickly and with your sanity intact.

Take your time (yes, really)

  • Apply toilet cleaner into the bowl
  • Give the cleaner ample time to do its thing (kill germs, dissolve dirt, remove grime)

Get a good brush

  • Before you start, be sure you invest in a strong toilet bowl brush
  • Old, flattened or squished brushes aren’t effective
  • Pick up a curved brush which reached up and under the toilet rim

Start scrubbing

  • With your powerful brush in rubber-gloved hand, start scrubbing the toilet bowl
  • For any stubborn or hard-to-remove rings, use a pumice stone directly on them
  • Pumice is natural and will crumble (so you don’t have to worry about scratches)

Disinfect

  • Spray disinfectant on the rim, seat, lid, handle, and the other tank and bowl
  • Allow the disinfectant to stand for a while so it can kill those nasty germs
  • Wipe away and dry with fresh cloths

The sink and countertop

Your bathroom sink and countertop is probably covered in things like:

  • Water deposits
  • Soap scum
  • Hardened toothpaste
  • Hair

And that’s the last thing you want your visitors (or you, for that matter) to be looking at when they go to wash their hands.

Here’s how to ensure that doesn’t happen:

Scrub

  • Empty the sink fully and rinse it with warm water
  • Sprinkle baking soda into the sink and scrub
  • Rinse off the baking soda with running water and dry with a clean cloth

Clean

  • Mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle
  • Spray the cleaning solution on a fresh cloth
  • Clean the sink and the countertop with the vinegar/water covered cloth
  • To remove the vinegar smell afterwards, rub the area with a fabric softener sheet

Dry

  • With a fresh cloth, wipe the sink and countertop dry of any leftover water droplets
  • Clean the edges of the sink and underneath the countertop

With another school year starting up in Kitchener, Oakville and Toronto, there are two common rooms in the home which are going to be quite busy:

  • The kitchen
  • The bathroom

For the kitchen, having easy-to-access snacks, room to do homework at the table and a well-stocked fridge will help get everyone whatever they need faster (especially during those super busy mornings).

When it comes to the bathroom, just follow these tips from Bath Planet of Toronto to get it ready for back-to-school.

Tip 1: Stock up

There are certain items you can stock up on now, knowing that you’ll eventually use them and/or they won’t expire on you:

  • Toilet paper
  • Soap
  • Shampoo
  • Shaving items (creams and razors)
  • Toothpaste

Now, you don’t want to buy more things than you have room for.

If you can’t close the cupboards under the sink because they’re too stuffed with toilet paper, you might have a bit much.

Rather, the idea is that when you head out to do your weekly groceries, you can just focus on the essentials (milk, fruit, bread, etc.) and not worry about bathroom toiletries which you already have.

Save more! Download your $500 voucher towards your Bath Planet project.

Tip 2: Make it kid-friendly

If you have pre-schoolers, elementary students or teenagers in the house, you know they all have different needs when using the bathroom:

  • Your teenage daughter may have extra long hair to wash and brush
  • Your pre-school son likes to play with bath toys every morning
  • Your elementary schooler is just learning how to brush teeth and comb hair

Knowing this beforehand can help you keep the bathroom organized throughout the school year.

For example, you can keep colour coded bins on the floor for your younger kids to reach. Green can be his bin full of toys and red can be her bin of brushes.

Older kids can have a dedicated shelf on the shower wall surround for things like body wash and shampoo.

If everyone knows where their belongings are, they’ll spend less time looking for them and get out of the bathroom quicker.

Tip 3: Use a wake-up scent

Pretty much everybody is a zombie when they enter the bathroom after waking up. It takes a while to become fully alert.

Placing a scented plug-in or drawer liner the night before and letting it permeate the air is a smart, nice way to instantly perk up.

Select a scent that everyone can agree on, for example:

  • Lemon/Lime (or another citrus scent)
  • Fresh flowers

Place it somewhere safe, like on the counter or back of the toilet. You can even place it on the bath wall surround if it’s waterproof.

Basically, you want to choose something that’s pleasant and refreshing; not overpowering.

Tip 4: Hang a clock in the bathroom

It’s easy to lose track of time during a busy morning.

You may think you took a 5 minute shower, but actually you spent 15 minutes enjoying the warm water.

And now, you (or your kids) are running late.

Stick a clock on the wall (better yet, get a water-resistant clock that’s safe to hang on a shower liner) in a place where everyone can see it.

Tip 5: Give it a thorough cleaning before school starts

If you’ve been meaning to scrub the bathroom from top to bottom for a while, you should get it done now.

Because once the school year starts, you may not have the time.

Set aside an hour or two and clean every part of the bathroom. Better still, get the whole family to help you tackle things like:

When school gets into full swing, it’s much easier to keep your bathroom nice and clean versus trying to get it that way in the first place.

To make things easier, you can make a list of bathroom cleaning jobs; give everyone a single part of the bathroom (toilet, sink, countertop, shower, etc.) they’re responsible for.

Tip 6: Shower and get everything ready the night before

Don’t like waiting to use the shower in the morning?

Not a fan of selecting your outfit when you wake up?

Take care of both these tasks the night before, then.

After dinner is served and homework is done, the house is usually quieter and calmer.

Take advantage of this downtime by showering before bed and getting your clothes ready for the next day (your kids can do this too).

That way, when everyone’s trying to get into the bathroom, you’ve already got a head-start on the day.

Is your bathroom not making the grade? Contact us

You’re ready for back-to-school. And your kids are ready too.

But no matter how hard you try, your bathroom just isn’t up to snuff.

In the case, it may be time to transform it for years to come.

Even with school just around the corner, the Bath Planet Process ensures that you can get a new bathtub or shower in as little as one day.

Minimum inconvenience. Maximum value.

The Bath Planet Process is all about convenient, affordable and hassle-free bath remodeling and shower remodeling services.

In order to do this, we use thick, high-quality acrylic for things like:

Over the years, many of you have wondered why Bath Planet of Toronto uses acrylic in a majority (if not all) of our projects.

And because you asked, here are the answers.

Acrylic is incredibly easy to clean

Bath Planet Toronto uses high-quality, thick acrylic

You should spend more time enjoying your bathroom rather than cleaning it.

Surface materials like porcelain, fibreglass, ceramic tile or marble can be challenging to clean. You’ll either need to use heavy creams or abrasive liquids to make them shine.

Unfortunately, those industrial-strength solutions sometimes smell and can even scratch the area you’re trying to clean.

Acrylic tubs and showers from Bath Planet on the other hand, can come sparkly clean in just minutes using common household cleaners like:

  • Dish soap
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar

To clean an acrylic shower wall surround or bath wall surround, just wipe the surface with a damp cloth and then clean using water, whatever cleanser you wish and a soft sponge.

Acrylic is mold and mildew resistant

Acrylic is mold and mildew resistant; tile is not

In case you’re wondering, here’s the difference between mold and mildew:

  • Mold can be black or green, found on just about any surface and is very toxic
  • Mildew is usually white or grey and usually appears on moist surfaces

They do have one common trait, though: They’re both disgusting.

Acrylic walk-in tubs are non-porous, meaning that there are no holes, pores or spaces where water can pass through, get stuck and eventually grow into a mold or mildew fungus.

If you’re interested in updating your bathroom and have breathing and/or respiratory issues, using Bath Planet Toronto acrylic gives you a fresh new look which won’t harm your lungs in the long-term.

Acrylic comes in many styles and colours

Choose the colour and style you want

There’s really no limit to the look and feel acrylic can give your bathroom.

  • Want an earthy colour for your bath liner? No problem.
  • Interested in a classic look for your walls? You got it.
  • Thinking about installing a vibrant wall pattern? Done.
  • Looking for a bold shower wall surround? Easy.

If you can design it in your dreams, there’s a very good chance it can be brought to life using acrylic from Bath Planet of Toronto.

Acrylic is easy to install

Removing grouted tile and a fully settled bathtub is a long, messy and expensive process.

And so is installing new tiles and a new bathtub too.

Acrylic can be molded and shaped to fit over your existing fixtures perfectly. In fact, that’s how it’s done at Bath Planet.

In a nutshell, here’s how it’s done:

  • Precise measurements are taken of your bathtub and shower
  • The new elements are made to precision using the expert computer software
  • Experienced installers lay them over your old tub or shower and secure them in place.

The entire process can be done in less than a day and can save you lots of money versus a full teardown and rebuild.

This year, International Seniors Day falls on Sunday, October 1.

And many elderly or retired homeowners in Kitchener, Oakville and Toronto are debating whether or not to install walk-in tubs from Bath Planet of Toronto into their homes.

(Actually, homeowners of all ages and walks of life are interested in walk-in bathtubs).

Just like any important decision, there are pros and cons of walk-in tubs to consider before choosing to book a FREE in-home consultation or download a special voucher for your project.

If you’ve been thinking about getting a walk-in tub, chances are it’s a good idea.

However, there are some instances where a walk-in tub may not be quite right for you (at least, not yet).

Pro: Easy, safe access in and out

As people age, their mobility and balance may diminish.

Which means stepping in-and-out of a slippery, high-walled bathtub isn’t quite as easy as it used to be.

A walk-in bathtub solves this issue with things like:

  • Large, lightweight and easy-to-open door
  • Minimal step between the floor of your bathroom and entrance to your walk-in tub
  • Textured tub floor to prevent slips and falls

Almost everyone, at some point, has at least slipped (if not fell) while getting in and out of their bathtub.

When it comes to the pros and cons of walk-in tubs, the safety benefits cannot be overstated or underestimated.

Pro: The benefits of hydrotherapy right at home

Walk-in tubs do more than just provide a safe and comfortable bathing experience.

They can help loosen tight muscles and soothe sore joints, thanks to built-in hydrotherapy jets and pinpoint water control.

Regarding the pros and cons of walk-in tubs, there aren’t that many accessibility products that can compete with:

  • High-powered water flow
  • Pinpoint control over where hydrotherapy jets are directed
  • Perfect heat and temperature settings (important for seniors with sensitive skin)

Using water to help with pain and discomfort has been put in practice since ancient Egypt.

However, conventional bathtubs can’t help with things like arthritis, fibromyalgia, and back pain.

Walk-in tubs can, though.

Pro: Incredibly easy to clean

Cleaning a porcelain or ceramic bathtub is never easy or fast.

You need to use harsh, smelly chemicals and spend a lot of time and effort to get them looking as shiny as possible.

A big part of the Bath Planet Process is using environmentally-friendly, easy-to-clean acrylic during its construction.

Here’s why:

  • All you need to clean acrylic is dish soap, vinegar or baking soda
  • Acrylic is mold and mildew resistant (important for seniors with respiratory issues)

Equally important, an acrylic walk-in tub is designed and built to perfectly fit over your existing soaker tub.

That means two things:

  • Water will not leak or get trapped between the bath wall surrounds and bath liners
  • Installing the walk-in tub is fast, simple and can be done in just a day

The time, energy and products required for cleaning is something to consider when looking at the pros and cons of walk-in tubs.

Pro: Maintain bathing independence

Anyone, regardless of age, wants to be able to bathe in peace, comfort and safety.

That sentiment is even more important when it comes to seniors looking to stay at home as they get older.

Walk-in tubs are designed to keep the dignity, security and self-esteem of people who otherwise would have trouble getting in and out of a traditional bathtub.

A walk-in bathtub:

  • Minimizes discomfort
  • Allows people to get in and out of the tub when and as they wish
  • Boosts confidence
  • Eliminates embarrassment
  • Increases privacy

After all, it’s much preferable to bathe on your own (if possible) than it is with extra assistance which really isn’t necessary.

Something to think about when noting the pros and cons of walk-in tubs.

Con: When a walk-in tub isn’t right for you

Although walk-in tubs add value, convenience and safety to your home, you may not be ready for a walk-in tub just yet.

Why is that? Well, it could be due to things like:

  • Patience (or lack thereof): If you want to jump out of your tub ASAP (while the water is draining), a walk-in tub isn’t for you. That’s because the water has to fully drain first before you can open the access door.

  • Bathing assistance: Walk-in tubs are deeper than a replacement bath tub. While that’s great for the person inside the tub, anyone outside (such as a support worker or therapist) will have a hard time reaching in or helping out.

  • Ability to shower: Your current bathtub may have a showerhead installed too. A walk-in tub does create a pleasurable, calming bathing experience. But if you want to have a quick shower, a walk-in tub will not allow it.

If you’ve been looking at the pros and cons of a walk-in tub and decide it’s not right for you, that’s okay.

Because perhaps one day, it will be.

At Bath Planet of Toronto, we totally understand the apprehension you may have when it comes to a bath remodeling project:

  • Money: Renovation projects always seem to go over budget and cost way more than originally estimated.
  • Time: A two week project becomes three. Then four. Before you know it, a month-and-a-half has passed before the job is done.
  • Inconvenience: Not having access to your bathroom during a shower remodel is a pain; especially if the master bathroom is being redone.

We get it.

And that’s why the Bath Planet Process gives you the bathroom you deserve without completely turning your life upside down.

Here’s how it works.

Step 1: Tell Show us what you want

There’s a reason the word tell has a strikethrough in it.

While it is important for you to tell us what you have in mind for your bathroom project, we think it’s more impactful if you show us.

That happens with a FREE in-home consultation with our design expert who’ll bring along product samples, wall colour swatches, patterns and other material for you to check out.

And it’s where you can show us your bathroom and demonstrate – in person – your dreams and goals for it.

From there, your Bath Planet design consultant can:

  • Inspect your bathroom for FREE.
  • Determine which remodeling options are best suited it.
  • Answer any questions you have in a one-on-one setting.

When you’ve finally settled on replacement bath tub, tub-to-shower conversion or other design elements you want, the next step is to bring it to life.

Step 2: Taking measurements and design review

The Bath Planet Process is all about precision.

So once your design is in place, the next step is to measure your bathroom from top-to-bottom.

Everything from your shower doors, step-through insert openings is measured with detailed care and accuracy.

In addition to measuring your bathroom, we’ll also take high-quality photographs too.

That helps ensure each element of your new bathroom fits perfectly and creates a watertight seal.

After all the numbers are collected and pictures are taken, our operations team will:

  • Review the work which needs to be done.
  • Check and double-check your order with you.

Only when everything is to your satisfaction will we proceed to the next step in the Bath Plant Process: constructing your new bath wall surrounds or shower wall surrounds at our manufacturing facilities.

Step 3: Building your new bathroom; one piece at a time

All the measurements taken in step 2 are then brought to our manufacturing plant.

Skilled and experienced craftspeople take that information and feed it into state-of-the-art computer software which will cut each individual element of your bathroom to exacting specifications.

When the final cut is made, we’ll double-check it to make sure it’s perfect before bringing it to your home for the next step: installation.

Step 4: Installing your new bathroom

First, we’ll contact you to arrange a date and time for your bathroom installation.

When installation day comes, our professional installers come with the tools and equipment needed to completely transform your bathroom in as little as one day.

Before starting though, we’ll make sure to:

  • Review each step of the installation process with you.
  • Protect your home from dust and debris.

At that point, our technicians get to work by:

  • Preparing your bathroom for its new bathtub, shower or accessibility products.
  • Setting a permanent bond to all applicable surfaces.
  • Installing the components of your new bathroom.
  • Testing the bond to ensure it holds.

When everything is in place, we’ll clean up after ourselves and show you exactly what we’ve done and to answer any questions you have.

Finally, that leads us to the last step in the Bath Planet Process, which is…

Step 5: Enjoying your new bathroom

The best and most rewarding step is to enjoy the look and feel of your new bathroom for many years to come.
